*AI Automation Engineer* _C2 Group (Conekt2, Inc.) | San Diego, California | On-site, Flexible Schedule | Full-time_ C2 Group is hiring an AI Automation Engineer to build, extend, and operate the AI-powered systems that run our firm. We already operate AI workflows in production, combining frontier language models with modern workflow orchestration and our operational data infrastructure. We are past the discovery phase. We are in the build-it-out phase, and we have more high-value automation work in the queue than one engineer can ship alone. This role exists because pattern matching beats greenfield invention at our stage. The architecture works. What we need is a builder who reaches for the simplest assembly of existing tools that solves the problem, who instinctively knows when to add a review step versus when to ship, and who ships working systems the team actually uses every day. *The Role* The AI Automation Engineer is the primary builder of automation and AI integration work across C2 Group. You will extend our existing AI workflows as new requirements emerge, build new quality control and review architectures across our inspection and engineering programs, develop project management and operations agents that support our delivery teams, and stand up internal tools that compound the firm’s institutional knowledge over time. Most of the patterns you will work with already exist in some form within the firm. Routing across multiple language models, review and verification layers, long-running workflows with human gates, document processing pipelines, and version-controlled prompts and templates. Your job is to apply these patterns to new business problems, customize the pieces that need customization, and operate the systems once they are live. The role carries the authority to choose tools, propose architectures, and make build-versus-buy calls within the operating budget for this function. This is a hands-on engineering role. You will write workflow code, design prompts, debug API calls, and own production systems end-to-end. You will not be doing original ML research or training models from scratch. You will be assembling production-grade automation from Frontier model APIs and modern workflow tooling. *What You Will Build* Concrete examples of systems already designed, in flight, or queued for development. The list is illustrative, not exhaustive, and the actual portfolio will evolve based on business priorities and your own ideas once you understand the firm. *Quality Control and Review Architectures. *AI-assisted review systems that evaluate deliverables against client and internal standards, flag inconsistencies and risk items, support QA/QC documentation, and prepare review packages for human approval across our inspection and engineering programs. *Project Management and Delivery Agents. *Agents that summarize meetings, surface risks and action items, draft status reports, report on trends and client updates, maintain project records, and reduce the administrative load on delivery teams so they can focus on technical work. *Engineering and Field Operations Support. *Workflows that streamline data and document flows between field teams, engineering staff, and clients. Examples include report generation, structured extraction from inspection outputs, and automation of recurring deliverable tasks. *Business Development and Proposal Support. *Tooling that supports the proposal lifecycle, including intake of opportunity documents, requirement extraction, content matching against past work, and review workflows. *Internal Knowledge and Operations Tools. *Systems that organize institutional knowledge across templates, SOPs, resumes, project examples, and lessons learned, and make that knowledge retrievable and reusable across the firm. *Key Responsibilities* *Build and Extend Workflows. *Design and ship new automation workflows that integrate language model APIs with our document, communication, and operational data systems. Extend existing workflows as the scope grows or business needs evolve. *Multi Model Orchestration. *Route tasks across multiple language models based on benchmark advantage, cost, and context window requirements. Tune prompts per model and per task. *Quality Control and Review Architectures. *Build review and verification layers into workflows where output quality matters. Implement human review checkpoints, automated checks, and pattern-matched compliance verification. *Operations and Project Management Agents. *Develop AI agents that support delivery teams with status reporting, risk surfacing, document assembly, and routine project administration. *State Management and Reliability. *Architect workflows that handle long-running processes, human review gates, and recoverability when things fail mid-stream. Build retry logic, error handling, and escalation into every workflow. *Production Operations. *Operate our automation environment, monitor pipeline health, manage API costs, and resolve production issues. Maintain version-controlled prompts, rubrics, and templates. *Internal Enablement. *Document architectures clearly. Train team members to use, trust, and contribute feedback to the systems you build. The systems only compound if people actually adopt them. *Qualifications* Three to six years of hands-on experience building automation, integration, or AI workflow systems in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to design end-to-end pipelines that cross multiple services, handle real data, and stay running. A practical mindset: you reach for the simplest architecture that solves the problem, you instrument what you ship, and you debug from logs rather than guessing. Comfortable reading and writing light code in JavaScript or Python for workflow logic, data transformation, and API integration. You do not need to be a software engineer by training, but you need to be fluent enough to wire APIs together, parse responses, and write Code nodes in n8n without flinching. Strong written communication. You will document architectures, write runbooks, and explain systems to non-technical team members. Clarity matters as much as cleverness. *Required* Hands-on experience with workflow automation tools such as n8n, Make, Zapier, Pipedream, or comparable platforms. Hands-on experience integrating with at least one frontier LLM API (Claude, GPT, Gemini, or others), including prompt design, structured output handling, and error management. Working knowledge of Airtable, Notion, Coda, or a comparable operational database. Comfortable with REST APIs, webhooks, and OAuth flows. Version control discipline using Git. *Strongly Preferred* Production experience with self-hosted workflow automation platforms. Multi-model orchestration experience, where different models are routed by task rather than defaulting to one provider. Experience designing stateless workflows backed by an external state machine. RAG, embedding, or vector database experience. Document processing experience, including PDF extraction, OCR, and structured data extraction from messy inputs. Experience in self-hosting services with Docker and basic Linux administration. Background in professional services, engineering, utilities, or other domains where workflows have real stakes attached. *Compensation* C2 Group offers competitive compensation, including base salary, performance-based bonuses tied to system delivery and operational reliability, and a comprehensive benefits package. Base salary range: $115,000 to $150,000 annually, commensurate with experience, demonstrated capability, and depth of relevant production experience. *Benefits* Medical, dental, and vision coverage. Professional development budget for relevant courses, conferences, and certifications. *Position Details* *Employment Type. *Full-time, Exempt. *Location. *On-site at our San Diego, California headquarters. The role offers a flexible schedule and the ability to work from home as needed, but it is not a primarily remote position. The role has the potential to grow into a small team as the automation portfolio expands. *Travel. *Minimal. Occasional travel for team off-sites or client integration sessions. *Start Date. *Immediate, with flexibility for the right candidate. *How to Apply* Please apply directly through this Indeed posting by submitting your resume and a brief cover letter or application note.
